Minecraft Stronghold Finder

Type your seed into ezseed's map and every stronghold on it shows up as a marker with exact coordinates — no Eyes of Ender, no triangulation math. The tool is free and runs in your browser; there's nothing to download and no account to make. It covers Java 1.20 through 26.2 and Bedrock up to 26.30, and it handles each edition's generation rules separately, since Bedrock places strongholds differently than Java. On Java, all 128 strongholds sit in 8 rings around 0,0, and you can toggle a rings overlay to see exactly where they're allowed to spawn. Turn on the stronghold layer, pick the closest marker, and head straight there.

How to use it

  1. Open ezseed.net, pick your edition and version (Java 1.20–26.2 or Bedrock through 26.30), and enter your seed.
  2. In the LAYERS rail, enable stronghold markers and the stronghold rings overlay to see where they can generate.
  3. Use Goto coords to center the map on your current in-game position.
  4. Run find-nearest-structure for strongholds — it gives you the distance and exact coordinates of the closest one.
  5. Head to those coordinates and start digging — copy the URL if you want to share the route with friends.

Good to know

Java places exactly 128 strongholds in 8 concentric rings around 0,0; the innermost ring sits 1,280–2,816 blocks out, which is why the closest portal is never right at spawn. ezseed draws those rings as an overlay — toggle it in the LAYERS rail, and since it's a URL parameter, any link you share keeps it visible — alongside exact markers for every stronghold on your seed. Bedrock generates strongholds differently: the ring-bound ones plus additional strongholds tied to villages, and the map models both. One thing worth knowing when you're picking a target: in modern versions strongholds never generate under ocean biomes, so a marker near a coast still sits under dry land. To pick the closest one, use the find-nearest-structure tool — it returns the distance and coordinates from any point you choose. Pair it with Goto coords to center the map on your in-game position first.

FAQ

How many strongholds are there in Minecraft?

On Java, exactly 128 per world, arranged in 8 concentric rings around 0,0. The first ring is 1,280–2,816 blocks from the origin, so the nearest stronghold is always a decent trip from spawn. Bedrock generates the ring-bound strongholds plus additional ones attached to villages, so its count works differently.

Do I still need Eyes of Ender to find a stronghold?

Not for locating it. Enter your seed and the map shows every stronghold's exact coordinates, so you can walk straight there. You'll still want Eyes of Ender to fill the End portal frame — the map gets you to the stronghold, and the portal room needs up to 12 eyes to activate.

Can strongholds generate under the ocean?

Not in modern versions — stronghold placement avoids ocean biomes. On a seed that's mostly ocean, expect the markers to land on islands and continental edges instead. That's useful when picking a target: a stronghold marker near the coast still sits under dry land, not under the seafloor.

Does the stronghold finder work on Bedrock?

Yes. Pick Bedrock as your edition (supported through 26.30) and the map uses Bedrock's generation rules: the ring-bound strongholds plus the extra ones bound to villages. Java and Bedrock place strongholds in different spots on the same seed number, so make sure the edition matches the world you're playing.
