You spawn in a Bamboo Jungle, a rare biome, at the bottom of a valley: the ground sits at least 40 blocks higher in most directions, and the rim climbs about 125 blocks above you. A jungle temple lies about 168 blocks north and an ancient city about 173 blocks away, so there is a lot to find early. The nearest village is a long walk, about 700 blocks.
