Minecraft Ancient City Finder
Ancient Cities only generate in the Deep Dark, buried deep underground around Y -51, so you can dig for hours and walk right past one. Paste your seed into ezseed and the map marks every Ancient City in your world instantly — no download, no account, it runs in your browser. Pick your edition and version (Java 1.20 through 26.2, Bedrock through 26.30), turn on the Ancient City layer, and use find-nearest-structure to get the exact coordinates of the closest city to your base or spawn. Since the map state lives in the URL, you can send the exact view — seed, position, zoom — to a friend so you both dig to the same spot.
How to use it
- Open ezseed.net in your browser and paste your world seed — no download or account needed.
- Set your edition and version: Java 1.20–26.2 or Bedrock up to 26.30.
- In the LAYERS rail on the left, enable the Ancient City structure marker.
- Use find-nearest-structure to jump to the closest Ancient City and read its coordinates from the marker popup.
- Switch biome height to Bottom (Y -51) to see the Deep Dark biome the city sits in.
Good to know
Ancient Cities were added in 1.19 and only spawn inside the Deep Dark cave biome, centered around Y -51 — they never reach the surface, which is why they're so easy to miss in-game. On the map, switch the biome height selector to Bottom (Y -51) and highlight Deep Dark to see exactly where the biome runs; cave biomes don't show at Surface height. Every marked city has a popup with its coordinates, and the distance-measure tool tells you how far the dig is from your base. If your current world has no city nearby, open the FINDER panel and search thousands of seeds for one with an Ancient City close to spawn. Before you head down, two things worth knowing: Swift Sneak enchanted books only exist in Ancient City loot chests, and the Warden guards them — sneak, and don't fight it if you can avoid it. You can also fly the terrain in the 3D viewer before committing to the trip.
FAQ
Where do Ancient Cities generate?
Only in the Deep Dark cave biome, centered around Y -51 — never on the surface. On the map, set biome height to Bottom (Y -51) to see the Deep Dark itself; at Surface height cave biomes are hidden. Every Ancient City is marked regardless of the height view.
Does the Ancient City finder work on Bedrock?
Yes. ezseed supports Java 1.20 through 26.2 and Bedrock up to 26.30. Pick your edition and version before entering the seed — Ancient City locations differ between editions, so the setting matters.
Can I find a seed with an Ancient City near spawn?
Yes — open the FINDER panel on the right and search thousands of seeds by criteria like a structure within a set radius of spawn. When you get a hit, the whole view (seed, position, zoom) is in the URL, so bookmark it or send it to friends.
Why raid an Ancient City at all?
Swift Sneak enchanted books, which let you walk faster while sneaking, only appear in Ancient City chests — there's no other source. Just watch for the Warden: it spawns when sculk shriekers trigger too often, and it hits hard. Find the city on the map first so you know exactly where to dig and spend less time wandering the Deep Dark.
